We had to make an unscheduled stop prior to visiting Sutton Hoo, as we had a problem with our fridge. The hinge gave way and the door wouldn’t shut properly. Leaving it on meant a high pitched alarm sounding every few minutes. Left off, the milk for my tea wouldn’t have stayed fresh for long! On or off, the door would have flown open at every corner, splattering eggs and tomatoes liberally around the van. Luckily a nice man in Ipswich agreed to take a look the same day, by wedging teatowels under the door me made it there without incident, and the nice man fixed it. He’s a treasure! (See what I did there?)

The viewing tower gives a great view of the various burial mounds – and the pointy bits of metal indicate the shape, size and location of the boat which contained the impressive hoard.
